OGHA Board of Directors - 2025-26 Priorities and Progress
This past year, the Board of Directors of the Ottawa Girls Hockey Association continued to focus on four core priorities: program stability, financial sustainability, fairness in competitive tryouts, and advancing girls and women in hockey. While the environment around us continues to evolve, these priorities remain central to building a strong and resilient association.
1. Program Stability
Youth hockey registration has rebounded strongly following the pandemic, with national participation now exceeding pre-COVID levels. The OGHA has also benefited from this renewed interest in the sport. At the same time, we remain mindful that smaller registration cohorts from the COVID years are progressing through the age groups. As a result, program stability continues to be a key focus.
Our goal remains to support both strong house league and competitive programs, ensuring accessible opportunities across all levels of play. We continue to prioritize balanced team formation, sustainable programming, and clear development pathways that allow players to grow and remain engaged in hockey over the long term.
2. Financial Sustainability
The Board maintained a strong focus on financial rigour this season. By continuing to optimize ice utilization and minimizing unnecessary expenditures, the association achieved consistent year-over-year financial results. This stability has helped further solidify OGHA’s financial position.
Looking ahead, this disciplined approach will allow us to thoughtfully reinvest in player development initiatives that enhance the experience for athletes across all programs.
3. Fairness in Competitive Tryouts
Building on improvements made in prior seasons, we continued to refine the competitive tryout process. This included ongoing use of independent oversight and evaluators, as well as enhancements to how and when we communicated with coaches, players, and parents throughout the process. Our objective remains to ensure transparency, consistency, and fairness, while continuously identifying opportunities to improve the experience for all participants.
4. Advancing Girls and Women in Hockey
OGHA remains deeply committed to creating an inclusive and welcoming environment for girls and women in sport. This season, we continued to prioritize the recruitment and support of female coaches, strengthening leadership representation across our programs. We also maintained a strong focus on welcoming players who are new to hockey at later ages, ensuring they have a clear and supportive pathway to learn, develop, and succeed within the association.
Together, these efforts reflect our ongoing commitment to stability, fairness, and inclusion, and to fostering a positive hockey environment where every girl has the opportunity to play, grow, and lead.
